Untangle summer messes by taking special care with your tresses

Does the summer heat and humidity have you tearing your frizzy hair out? Celebrity hair stylist David Evangelista has tips on how to untangle those summer messes with your tresses.

To start, Evangelista said to make sure to seal in the moisture.

"The one thing is prepping your hair," he said. "In the morning, when you get out of the shower, use products that are antihumetic, that say anti-frizz, like smoothing cream. Things like that will get the cuticle together so that it doesn't spread apart too much during the day."

He also suggests using a sunscreen to protect your hair.

If you're not willing to embrace your natural texture and need that blow dryer, Evangelista said use a lower heat setting, and try not to use it every day.

"A blow drying tip: always keep the air down on the hair, never lift it up, because the cuticle spreads and it will be a frizzy mess," he said.

If you like a little flip or wave, he says its best to blow it under, and then let it naturally turn out.

Does the summer heat and humidity have you tearing your frizzy hair out? Jill Scott caught up with celebrity hair stylist David Evangelista at his salon at the Cornelia Day Resort to get some tips on how to untangle those summer messes with your tresses.

For those of you who prefer an iron, he suggests that you try not to use it every day, because it can dry out your hair and leave it frizzier. Also, if you use one, you might want to get one with tourmaline technology because it's less damaging to the hair.

When it comes to technique, Evangelista said grab small sections and only iron from the mid shaft down. He said hair does not need the straightening as much near the root.

For a little bit of a wave, he advises grabbing a curling iron.

"So if you are going to use a curling iron, what you are going to do is wrap the hair around the curling iron, just lightly, for maybe 10 seconds," he said. "Keep the hair on there because the hair will bond to the curling iron and smooth the cuticle down and give you a nice little summer wave."

And some days it's just not worth the battle with the humidity. For those days, Evangelista suggests a quick, easy chignon. To do this, he said start with a sleek, low ponytail and work from there.

"Take a little sun protector, UV protection, and spray it on your hands, warm it up, and then run it through," he said. "Then twist the hair around, wrap it around the ponytail, and take a large hair pin grab it inside the bun and pin it on down."
