SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- A jockey made her debut at the Saratoga Race Course. After being scratched from Friday's card, Jackie Davis got the chance to compete in Sunday's first race.
Dressed in yellow and gold, the 21-year-old Middle Grove native rode Easter Guardian. This was her first time riding in a major race, but judging by the fan fare, you'd think she was a longtime professional. As for her race, she was off to a swift start, but she didn't place first.
Davis is no stranger to the sport. Her father, Robbie Davis, was a world class jockey. Having spent two years at the North American Racing Academy, Jackie and her father say it's an experience they won't forget.

"I needed this experience but I was pretty prepared for it. You really don't really know that your race ready until you do it and you don't know until your fit enough until you actually ride races, then you get fitter," Jackie Davis said.
"She did really well in the race. She didn't bother anybody and it looks like she's on her way," Robbie Davis said.
Davis has spent her summer working for Hall of Fame trainer Allen Jerkens. Word is she will get a chance to ride again.
