SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Labor Day marks the end of another season of racing at the Saratoga Race Course. The 140th meet is now in the books.
It ended in typical Saratoga style with free admission for racing fans. And although it looked like the rain was going to lead to a soggy season at the track, the warm, beautiful weather overcame the storm.
The 140th meet at the Saratoga Race Course is officially in the books. Photographer Shawn Hilleboe brings us a look back at the season that was rainy out of the gate but rounded the turn into a beautiful final stretch.
NYRA Communications Director John Lee said, "Really the first half of the meet was just soggy all the time. We lost so many races off the turf, so many scratched horses, really bad on business, and really tough on the fans who still came out in pretty admirable numbers. One day we even had to cancel racing after the second race. It was such a deluge that included hail."
Other closing day highlights included an All-American Labor Day Barbecue and the annual Family Fun Fest.
