At the New York State Museum, you may notice there is a focus on the former governor of New York, Nelson A. Rockefeller. It's in fact a four-part exhibition known as "Rockefeller 100."
"It's essentially a celebration and recognition of what would have been his 100th birthday. It's divided into a number of sections," said NYS Museum director Cliff Siegfried.
It includes one exhibit featuring Rockefeller as the politician.
"In our west gallery entryway we have part of our governor's collection, essentially memorabilia related to his campaigns for governor," said Siegfried.
Another emphasizes Rockefeller's lifelong interest in the arts.
At the New York State Museum, you may notice there is a focus on the former governor of New York, Nelson A. Rockefeller. It's in fact a four-part exhibition known as "Rockefeller 100."
"He was instrumental in creating this monumental collection of modern art that he felt was important for the people of New York have access to and understand," said Siegfried.
Other artists recognized Rockefeller as well. One portrait is designed and created by Andy Warhol. Then there's the architectural model of the Empire State Plaza in the museum's lobby. Rockefeller was fully involved with the plaza's basic design. His goal was to create the most beautiful state Capitol in America.
Siegfried said, "Apparently he had the Queen of Netherlands here visiting in Albany. He was embarrassed that it was such a shabby neighborhood. That was one of the reasons for coming up with the plan for the Empire Plaza," said Siegfried.
Rockefeller 100 is made possible through a joint effort by the State Museum, the State Archives, the State Library, the Office of Public Broadcasting, and the Office of General Services. It's an exhibit that really shows Rockefeller's interest in art, politics and architecture. Then, there's also his official car.
"We also have his Lincoln Continental, one of only 54 built of that kind in the Empire State Plaza, the concourse itself," said Siegfried.
And if you're interested in seeing the official car, plus everything else that Rockefeller 100 has to offer, the exhibit will be on display at the New York Museum through October 12th.
