It's the story of a deep secret behind a mysterious death, a haunting tale called "The Skeptic."
"This is more about the unknown, and that fear of the unknown, and what it is that is going on and all the suggestions," said writer/director Tennyson Bardwell.
The film follows a lawyer who moves in to his aunt's house after her death, despite the fact that the house is rumored to be haunted, but this is not your typical horror movie.
"There's a lot questions. The whole thing is a little about questioning belief, so we're just calling it a thriller," said Bardwell.
A feature film shot in Saratoga Springs makes it to the Cannes Film Festival. "The Skeptic " is the story of a deep secret behind a mysterious death.
The history behind "The Skeptic" is an interesting one to say the least. After it was shot in Saratoga Springs, it went on to the post production process, and then it was screened in a place that would be an honor for any filmmaker -- the Cannes Film Festival.
"We had a sales rep that was interested in taking it to Cannes and we were fortunate to do that, that they liked the film and wanted to take it. That's where you turn it over to someone else. It's their job to sell it," said producer Mary-Beth Taylor.
"We rented a boat out there, brought a lot of distributors on, highlighted the film. The second viewing is nearly sold out, so we really feel like we're going to get some great foreign sales, so we're pretty excited about right now, " said executive producer David Silipigno.
Quite an accomplishment for a local film, but like many projects, there was a lot of work behind the scenes.
"I would say it was about a year and a half of editing and you have a lot of material, so it took about three to four weeks just to digitize the footage in, and then you start sorting and organizing it, and then you start piecing the story together," said associate producer/editor Ann Marie Lizzi.
And from the writing the script to filming in the Capital Region and finally visiting Cannes, it's safe to say "The Skeptic" was a rewarding experience for all concerned.
"It's so much work, there's so much involved, there's so many pieces. It's like a huge puzzle that your piecing together and then in the end to see it come to fruition is really very gratifying, "said Lizzi.
