They're back. One of the premiere dance companies in the world has returned to Saratoga Springs. The New York City Ballet.
"We're always excited when the New York City Ballet comes back to their summer home, and this year they bring with them their season long celebration of Jerome Robbins," said SPAC President Marcia White
Jerome Robbins was considered one of the most innovative and creative choreographers. This season, the ballet will showcase twelve of his works, including West Side Story and Glass Pieces. Along with this special theme, the performers are also enthusiastic about this special summer place.
They're back. One of the premiere dance companies in the world has returned to Saratoga Springs. The New York City Ballet.
It's such an honor to be part of our company and the fact that we can spend our summers here in Saratoga. It's nice to get out of the city and to expand our audience, " said NYC Ballet dancer Ashley Bouder.
The New York City Ballet may be based out of the Big Apple, but they always look forward to their home away from home.
"It's fun to see people out on the lawn and just be able to really look out and focus instead on just an audience in an enclosed theater," said Bouder.
In addition to entertaining the audience, the New York City Ballet has basically two objectives -- to preserve the history of the ballet and standards of excellence as established by its founders, while also looking ahead to new contemporary ideas.
"I think we hold to our history like that, but we're always looking for new choreographers, doing new ballets, new works, while maintaining our past," said Bouder.
Due to some economic problems, there was a time when the future of the ballet at SPAC was in question, but for now, in spite of these recent tough times, that tradition lives on.
The most important element in that tradition continuing is for people to come, so if they want to support the ballet and continue this great legacy, we need people to come and be part of the SPAC family, " said White.
And if you're interested in catching a performance from The New York City Ballet, the dance company will be performing at SPAC through July 26.
