Thousands left without power after storms

CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. -- Cleanup was in full force throughout Albany County this weekend. Fierce winds snapped trees like toothpicks and scattered power lines like shoe-string.

National Grid was on the scene patching up power lines, but the heat and humidity made the job difficult for everyone involved.

"The heat is going to be a factor for the customers without power. Safety, everybody has to come in and go home tonight, and we'll get your lights on, just be patient," one national grid employee told us.

More than 3,000 people were without power at one point, and of course it's forcing people to battle the heat without losing their cool.

Those without the comfort of electricity are coming to cool places like The Perfect Blend.

With the AC pumping and coffee coolatas galore, it's the perfect place to beat the heat.

Thousands left without power after storms
Friday's night's storms left thousands of people without power this weekend. While it was all hands on deck as National Grid worked to get the lights back on, the outage couldn't have come at a worse time.
“I'm doing the iced macadamia nut latte and a berry smoothie,” said Janet Raftery, Delmar Resident.

While this group avoided the heat with a cool beverage, they know a day with out power is enough to boil anyone's temperature.

"A lot of people are just upset. It's just, you know you can have power 99.9 percent of the time and the one day you don't, happens to be this heat, this humidity and so it's unfortunate and unlucky but I understand their frustrations,” said Steve Noel, Delmar Resident.

Working through the frustration of the warm weather means getting the power back online. From cable crews, to electric workers, to the neighbors pulling out their power tools, they're all pitching in to bring people out of the dark.
