PATTERSONVILLE, N.Y. -- You can call it a camp song, but more accurately, it's probably a rain dance. And it's working!
Camp Pattersonville Counselor Robert Lawry said, "It's been raining since Sunday."
And the 50 boys camping at the top of Route 160 in Pattersonville have gotten wet. All the kids are doing alright. They just have no way out -- that is, no way to drive out.
"Trapped. We are trapped because we cannot get down that road," Lawry said.
The fire department and state DOT crews have been at the scene of the intersection trying to repair the road since 3 p.m. Wednesday, but the rain just keeps coming.
Lawry said, "We can climb across it now, but we have to wait. Hopefully it'll get fixed, because these guys have got to get home by Saturday."
The camp's been in contact with emergency services and there is a plan in place in case anything happens. But for now, it's slow going.
Fifty young campers are stranded in Pattersonville after the access roads to their summer camp washed out. Camp Pattersonville is at the top of Route 160, and as our Kaitlyn Ross reports, that entire area is a mess.
"Unfortunately the water's coming in faster than we can pump it, so we're just maintaining levels at this time until the water drops," said Pattersonville Fire Chief Tony Landolfo.
Now the folks that live on the street are doing their own type of rain dance, except it involves sub-pumps and a whole lot of shovels.
"It was about three feet of water in here. Now it's all covered in mud. So I pulled all my stuff out to tried and save what I could," said resident Garrett Cowsert.
Resident Peter Forsyth said, "I got lucky because I only have four feet. She had probably six or seven feet in her house."
There are about a dozen houses on the street and every single one of them had water in their basement.
