Man sentenced for aggravated vehicular assault and DWI

ALBANY, N.Y. -- A Loudonville man who pleaded guilty to charges for a crash that seriously injured a 24-year-old woman was sentenced to three and a third to 10 years in prison on Friday.


Dennis Brodeur, 47, pleaded guilty in July to felony aggravated vehicular assault and misdemeanor DWI.


According to the Albany County District Attorney's Office, Brodeur was driving on Route 9 in Albany on Feb. 2 when he crossed over the center line and collided with a car driven by Kelly Flynn, 24, of Loudonville.


Brodeur suffered a leg injury, while Flynn suffered serious injuries to her legs and arms that required three surgeries and months of recovery.

Flynn said, "When you hear my story, you say, oh, what a poor girl, that it continues on, and it's really important to get the education out there and awareness out there of alcohol to everybody, young old, 21, 40, it doesn't even matter."


This is the first time someone has been indicted and convicted of aggravated vehicular assault in Albany County since the law was enacted in November of 2007.
