SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Despite the wet weather, plenty of people braved the rain to play the ponies in Saratoga, however, five races had to be moved from the turf to the main track.
During the entire last racing season, just six races had to be moved from the turf to the dirt. There were also numerous scratches because of the heavy downpours.
The rain didn't bother die-hard race fans though and NYRA's PJ Campo is still happy with opening day 2008.

"I’ll tell you, it's great. It's really fabulous to see the fans come out, even during the course of all this bad weather throughout the day, it's really nice to see," Campo said.
Official numbers aren't in yet, but officials say so far, they're pleased with the turnout.
